About Opera
Thirty years and counting…
[Origins1 – The Italian word opera means “work”, both in the sense of the labour done and the result produced. The Italian word derives from the Latin word opera, a singular noun meaning “work” and also the plural of the noun opus]
The Opera Group was set up in 1992 with its first trading office in Guildford in Surrey. At the same time a head office was set up in Cheltenham – midway between the homes of the two founding directors. From the outset the intention was to drive growth through the acquisition of small recruitment companies in need of sales and systems support. Post-acquisition, the management and sales staff would be free to concentrate on business expansion and strategy rather than administration and bureaucracy
Through rapid acquisition, the Group established both temporary and permanent recruitment businesses across the UK which, over the years, has given it the structural and financial strength to withstand repeated shocks as the UK economy has expanded and contracted.
Accounting, payroll, statutory and administrative functions of the branch network are handled by Opera Holdings at our head office, now in Quedgeley, Gloucestershire, whilst the Opera Group businesses continue to focus on their most important objectives – satisfied clients and motivated staff.
